Geis is testing Cargometer’s on-the-fly freight dimensioning system at several road locations since the beginning of this year

The new type of freight measurement system from Cargometer (including the scan-in-motion module) is used for the fully automatic determination of the weight and volume of a package while driving on a forklift, writes the Geis Group in its latest LinkedIn post.

Geis’ innovation management has had the pilot phase at several road locations scientifically accompanied as part of a bachelor’s thesis. The result is an excellent study on the subject of “on-the-fly – freight dimensioning system” including a detailed market analysis.

“Cargometer saves the entire process time for measuring and weighing and the utilization of our trucks can be optimized. This also means fewer journeys and therefore an advantage for our environment.”

The interface between the colli and the freight measurement system is a 100 x 100 mm label with a 2D code that is created during unloading and attached to each pallet. The code can be automatically recognized and read by Cargometer Scan-in-Motion. During the journey through the measuring area, the dimensions and weight of each package are indexed to the package number that has been read out. This means that a manual barcode scan no longer has to be carried out in order to assign a colli and initiate measurement and weighing.
